Exterior paint in the Piedmont has a hard job. Strong summer sun breaks down the finish, humidity and rain keep the wood damp, and mildew grows happily on shaded walls. When paint peels or blisters early, the cause is almost always what happened before the first coat.
Clean surfaces come first. Dirt, chalky old paint, and mildew all keep new paint from bonding. A proper wash, with a mildew treatment on shaded sides, is the foundation of a paint job that lasts.
Then deal with the wood. Loose and peeling paint has to be scraped back to a sound edge, and rotted trim, fascia, or siding boards need to be replaced, not painted over. Bare wood gets primer, and gaps at joints and around windows get caulked so water can't get behind the paint.
Timing matters too. Paint needs the right temperature and dry surfaces to cure properly, so we schedule exterior work around the weather rather than rushing it on a damp morning or just before a storm.
Do the prep right and a quality exterior paint job protects your home for years. We'll walk around the house with you, point out any rot or problem areas, and put the full scope in writing before we start.
